All about the one-year-old of the fabric abrasive belts

The latest generation of 3M™ abrasive belts with 3M's precision-formed ceramic grit has been on the market for a year now and has already proven its capabilities with a wide variety of customers and industries. Application specialist David Schwarze presents two success stories.

Application: Removing scale from steel sheets

David Schwarze: "The decisive factor for the customer to switch to the 3M™ Cubitron™ II 784F abrasive belt was initially the significantly longer service life compared to competitor products: With fewer belt changes and reduced abrasive requirements, he can achieve cost optimization as a result. In addition, the predecessor product required a very high contact pressure for effective work. Heat generation and fine dust pollution for the users were also too high for the customer. Since the conversion to 3M™ Cubitron™ II 784F abrasive belt with 36+ grit is required for the same surface result, significantly less contact pressure is required and the fine dust load is also reduced".

Application: Removing welding seams, surface treatment in tank construction (steel and stainless steel)

David Schwarze: "In addition to the topics of heat generation and fine dust pollution, the focus here was also on service life, which the customer wanted to improve. At the same time, clean results in surface treatment were a must. For this customer, the Cubitron II 784F abrasive belts in grit sizes 36+ to 150+ demonstrate their advantages: The low heat generation and the clean and burr-free surface results speak for themselves. Compared to conventional abrasives, the abrasive belt with a mixture of aluminium oxide and precision-formed ceramic grains significantly reduces the dust load and increases the service life due to the "self-sharpening" properties of the Cubitron II grain.

3M™ Cubitron™ II Abrasive belts are the latest generation of 3M™ abrasive belts. Their "secret" is the precision-formed high-performance ceramic grain: Due to the geometrically defined triangular shape of the grain, which always retains two sharp edges due to the design, up to four times longer service life is achieved than with conventional abrasive belts. The open dispersion of the abrasive grain enables very high removal rates and cool grinding. If an additional grinding aid is used, the workpieces are also subjected to even less thermal stress.
